FAQ - Frequently asked questions

How do I rent my car through Spagg?

•  You register your car with Spagg and tell us when and for how much you want to rent your vehicle.

•  Spagg will screen out only legitimate renters that meet strict identification, insurance and payment verifications.

•  Spagg sends you messages (SMS, email) with timing and location of potential rentals.

•  Once you confirm the rental, Spagg processes payment and sends detailed information about meeting location, timing and the identity of the renter.

•  Spagg will provide you with a standard contract to sign at the moment of the vehicle drop-off. The contract will stipulate all the details about the vehicle's condition (existing scratches), and restrictions (smoking, pets, mileage limits).

•  A similar bill of vehicle return will be signed at the moment of pick-up. Owner and renter will verify any differences in vehicle's condition relative to the contract at the moment of drop-off.

How much money can I make?

You can make good money:

•  An average midsize vehicle with less than 5 years will generate about $20 for a day rental.

•  Renting 5-10 days per month can help you pay for the fixed costs of the car (parking, insurance, etc), or help you with school expenses (meals, books, spring break trip!).

What if the renter runs away with my car?

If somebody wants your car, they cab just grab it anytime at a parking lot or on the street. It is a lot harder to steal a car during a rental, due to Spagg's secure platform:

•  A legally binding contract between the owner and the renter of the vehicle legitimizes the rental transaction.

•  Renters are fully traceable through their Driver Licenses and credit cards.

•  Credit card transactions validate the home address provided by the renters.

•  A hold is placed on the renters credit card before you drop off the vehicle, so eventual incidentals are covered.

•  All renters must have insurance for property and 3rd party liability. The insurance will cover cost of repair during eventual accidents.

•  Spagg will provide roadside assistance in the event that your car has a mechanical failure during rental (you will still be responsible for repairs of failures not caused by renter operation of the car).

•  Spagg is a registered California company under the name of Carbuk LLC.

•  The Spagg Network is a California registered company (Carbuk LLC) with the mission of creating the first car rental marketplace where college students can securely offer their cars for rental.

•  Our priority is the security of the transactions, so we have consulted with legal advisors to build a solid transaction platform and have signed contracts with large insurance companies to cover our customer's liabilities.

•  We believe that the Spagg Network provides customers with equivalent or higher level of protection than other leading online marketplaces, such as eBay or Amazon Merchant Services.

How can I meet with the renter to drop-off the car?

•  Spagg has a list of meeting places all over the city. There are 2 meeting places for each neighborhood proposed.

•  Meeting points are public places, typically a free parking lot from a known retail chain.

•  You can stop your vehicle, meet the renter and sign the contract.

•  We ask our customers not to leave your vehicles at the parking lots without being present, as it would most likely be against the rules of the parking lot used.

•  The renters are asked to return the cars at the same location, unless special arrangements are made between renter and owner.

But I like my car too much to rent it out to somebody I don't know!

•  It is true that Spagg will require changing the mentality. When eBay started in 1995, nobody thought about selling their personal things over the internet either.

•  But most students now think about cars in a more modern way. Car usage in student life evolved a lot in past 30 years:

•  Before: You served the car

•  Symbol of status: you are what you car allows you to be

•  Expensive

•  complicated: repairs, breaks often, etc

•  The car's the boss

•  Now: the car serves you

•  Takes you from A to B

•  Keeps pace with your modern busy life

•  Is trustworthy, breaks a lot less often

•  Economical/convenient/practical

•  You're the boss

•  Spagg community allows you to take advantage of new way to consume cars and earn money when you don't need it.

What if there is a stalker?

•  There's no reason to believe that a rental appointment will be less safe than just walking on the street.

•  There's nothing to fear. The Spagg rentals will be safe:

•  Your personal information will never be published on the website.

•  Renters are already fully identified through drivers license, credit card, insurance, address match, etc.

•  We'll set up appointments in daylight times at public places.

•  Common sense applies as for any meetings: please take all steps necessary to ensure your own safety.

Do I need to run inspections on my car?

•  In order to maintain car safety, Spagg requires you to keep updated with all state required controls. For a list of controls on your state, please follow this link [link to public database of controls per state].

•  It is also advisable that you maintain your car security features in reasonable functioning condition. We advise you to follow these rules:

•  Brakes: brakes must be maintained ….

•  [Research better technical conditions required and describe here]

•  Please note that these recommendations are for informative purposes only. Spagg does not take responsibility for the correct functioning of your car's equipment. All rentals take under full responsibility of the driver and the owner of the cars.
